My personal quiet times have experienced a revival of sorts, and in this time of revival I am seeking new ways to be diligent in prayer.
I am a partner in public ministry with my husband, and sometimes I take this responsibility lightly; not covering us fully with the prayer we desperately need.
Recently I felt the Lord tugging at my heart to begin praying for John using a passage of scripture in Titus as a guide. Paul wrote in his letter to Titus the qualifications necessary for being an 'overseer' (elder/bishop). These qualities are essential to fruitful ministry even today, and I am grateful that John is not disqualified by any of these standards. I know that praying specifically for God's continued protection and provision will be crucial for fruitfulness in our future ministry as principalities and powers seek to tear down what God has established.
Here is the start of my prayer-in-the-works. I know the Lord will refine it during our times together over these next few weeks...
I am grateful to have a husband that loves You deeply and seeks You with teachable heart.
I am also grateful that You have placed in his hands the sheep of Your pasture to lead and to guide.
The responsibility You have given him is so great, and I know that it is in Your strength that he is able to fulfill the tasks you set before him.
Because he needs You so, I am praying for him now.
Please, Lord, let my husband be blameless, that his personal life is always above reproach—beyond legitimate accusation and public scandal.
Let our marriage be an example of Your love and Your faithfulness. Let our children bless Your kingdom as they trust You, love You, and serve You.
Father, please keep him far from arrogance, a quick temper, habits that dull his senses, violence, and greed.
Through Your Holy Spirit, empower him to live a life of hospitality, self-control, uprightness, holiness, and discipline; all the while loving that which is good and pleasing to You.
I pray that he will hold firmly to the trustworthy Word that he has been taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.
I thank You for Your faithfulness, knowing that You will provide our every need. We know that You will do more than we ask or imagine through Your power working within us.
I ask these things in the precious name of Jesus Christ, who intercedes on our behalf, Amen.
