I love Alton Brown. You know, the celebrity chef?
Well, I love Alton Brown pre-Iron Chef days. When he was less suave and more the quirky-could-be-your-home-ec-teacher kind of guy.
One thing that he's said a million times is that he despises uni-taskers in the kitchen. Gadgets and gizmos that occupy valuable kitchen space but only provide one limited purpose.
Apple core-er. Uni-tasker. Garlic press. Uni-tasker. Banana slicer, anyone?
What I'm realizing these days, however, is that God created me to be a uni-tasker.
You shall have no other gods before Me. Exodus 20:3
Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God is One. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. Dueteronomy 6:4-5
This is the first and greatest commandment. Matthew 22:38
I am one person made to worship One God. A uni-tasker.
I read recently (in How People Change), that my sin problem pours out of a worship problem. It's when I walk away from my uni-tasked purpose - when I begin to multi-task, dabbling in other than what's best, sin is not far behind.
My heart and flesh cry out. I want to worship You, Lord. May my wayward heart forever long to stay in Your presence.
